T F Georgetown Invests for Generations to Come or Generations to Come: The Campaign for Georgetown publicly launched in October 2011 with a kickoff weekend celebration. The commitment to invest in people, programs, places, and purposes starts with a goal to raise $1.5 bil-lion for scholarships, faculty recruitment, research and innovation, and other strategic priorities. Scheduled to close in 2016, the campaign has brought in $840 million of the total goal through leadership gifts to date. For its part, Georgetown McDonough has raised an esti-mated $61 million toward the school’s goal of $100 million, with almost half contributing to faculty support. Read about a gift from Robert and Lauren Steers on the next page. In addition to funding endowed professorships — Georgetown McDonough currently has 11, less than half the number offered at peer institutions — the campaign seeks to honor and recognize achievements and service through faculty excellence funding, expand research opportunities, and recruit and retain additional world-class faculty members. “By strengthening our core through increased faculty support, new and expanded undergraduate programs, and scholarships for graduate stu-dents, we strive to attract and retain the best students and faculty members,” says Dean David A. Thomas. “In this way, we will remain a pre-eminent business school producing knowledge and educating leaders to address the most signifi cant challenges and opportunities facing business and society.” These core programs affect students at all levels of their studies, from the First Year Seminar for undergraduate students to the Global Business Experiences that are the hallmark of Georgetown McDonough’s MBA programs. In addition, campaign funding will build new program capacity and extend the school’s impact beyond the classroom through the Entrepreneurship Initiative, the Center for Financial Markets and Policy and its Real Estate Finance Initiative, the Center for Business and Public Policy, and the Global Social Enter-prise Initiative. These initiatives and centers have grown from the support of alumni, friends, staff, and faculty, and continue to benefi t from contributions of all sizes both through the Dean’s Leadership Fund and the university-wide Genera-tions Campaign. Any annual gifts to the Dean’s Leadership Fund during the campaign also count toward the total goal and, for alumni, give credit toward percent participation, an important factor in sustain-ing support for the school. Wall Street Alliance Honors Leaders he 12th Annual Wall Street Alliance Scholarship Din-ner honored two industry leaders, including the fi rst Georgetown University faculty member to receive the award: Reena Aggarwal, Robert E. McDonough professor of business administration and professor of fi nance, and direc-tor of the Georgetown Center for Financial Markets and Policy at the McDonough School of Business, and Theodore “Ted” J. Leonsis (C ’77), founder, chair-man, majority owner, and CEO of Monumental Sports & Enter-tainment. The event was held Feb. 23 at The Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Each year, the event brings together the Georgetown fi nancial services community to honor colleagues who have made a signifi cant mark profes-sionally and in service to their community. Supported by more than 5,000 alumni, parents, and friends in the business com-munity, the alliance works to raise Georgetown’s profi le in fi nance; to create and participate in networking opportunities for fi nancial professionals; to pro-vide networking, mentoring, and scholarship support to current and future Georgetown stu-dents; and to build relationships between members’ fi rms and the university for the mutually ben-efi cial exchange of resources.
