LOCATION Mission Viejo Chino Hills Murrieta Yorba Linda Dana Point Pauma Valley Dove Canyon Los Angeles SPOTLIGHT ON: PAUMA VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB Pauma Valley Country Club has long been one of Old California’s favorite private layouts, as well as one of the most exclusive in the nation. Pauma Valley was tribal and ranching land that soon became an enclave for both farmers and Hollywood celebrities like John Wayne. For many decades, the John Wayne Ranch House stood next to what it is now the 14th tee — and the building also served as the facility’s first clubhouse. Pauma Val-ley’s potential as the site for a superb golfing facility and residential community was first realized in the early 1950s, and Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the layout. Today, the club offers a special SCGA Member Outing that includes the opportunity to stay on property in one of Pauma Valley’s fairway casitas; enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in the clubhouse dining room; and take advantage of the pool the day before the event. It’s a rare chance to stay and play at one of golf’s most exclusive hideaways!
